Dempo Family

The Dempo Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) led by Land Baron Vithalrao Visnum Sinai Dempo, grandfather to Dr. Dempo, pioneered the leadership in the 16th century of Hindutva with Sanātana Dharma refers to a "timeless, eternal set of truths," eternal truths and tradition with origins beyond human history, truths divinely revealed (Shruti) in the Vedas – the most ancient of the world's scriptures. Despite the orthodox values, Dempo has been liberal and secular in its practices and social responsibilities for hundreds of years, since 1500 A.D. The Dempo Hindu Undivided Family(HUF) represented the interests of Goa through their vast land ownership and fostered diplomatic immunity and negotiations with colonial settlers. In 1873, King Louis I of Portugal granted them a royal decree to recognize and applaud their contributions to trade and commerce, leading to the economic empowerment of the people and social, cultural, and religious liberalism in Goa. It is over 500 years and counting; the Dempo Family supports religious festivities and social welfare through Lord Dattatreya Temple in Sankhali Bicholim, Siridao Zuari Goa Velha Kanji Rice Feast , Mahalaxmi Temple Panaji, among subsidized education and free nourishment at Casa Dempo.
